Colleen Murphy wrote the libretto for a new opera launching in Toronto in May.
In this message from Tapestry Opera, they are looking for support for the new show.
In May, we will bring you the world premiere of a groundbreaking new Canadian work, Oksana G. This will be the most ambitious work we have taken on since Iron Road in 2001!
Art has the power to awaken and stir us — to recognize and help fight injustice. It is a powerful antidote to the 24-hour news cycle that makes it normal to forget yesterday’s injustices. Human trafficking is a global problem, but is also an active problem much closer to home. Oksana G. gives a voice to the voiceless, and reminds us not to dehumanize the victims. We believe that art inspires social justice.
The Amazing Talent involved in Oksana G.
• Two-time Governor General’s award-winning writer Colleen Murphy,
• Acclaimed composer Aaron Gervais,
• Soprano Ambur Braid as Oksana,
• Director Tom Diamond (Iron Road, The Shadow),
• Star conductor Jordan de Souza (M’dea Undone, Rocking Horse Winner).
Your support has an immediate effect on our ability to mount this stunning new work. We ask you to join us in not only helping one of Tapestry’s greatest undertakings come to life, but also in helping Oksana’s voice be heard and allowing a growing collective awareness to turn the tide on human trafficking. A gift before the end of the calendar year would support this ambitious and vital undertaking.
Thank you for your support!
